In this episode, Samantha breaks down her favorite way to work with clients: the copywriting VIP day. If you've ever wondered what done-in-a-day copywriting actually looks like (and whether it's right for you), this one's for you!

Samantha walks through what she can realistically accomplish in a single seven-hour writing day, including a full website, a high-converting sales page, or a core set of launch emails. She also gets honest about what a VIP day isn't built for, so you can figure out whether this format or a longer project is the better fit before you reach out.

This episode doubles as a behind-the-scenes look at how Samantha structures client work, complete with client results.

Nomad Copy Agency writes copy that CONVERTS for service-based businesses. Inquire about done-for-you services here.

Hello friends and welcome back to Copy and the marketing podcast where you learn how to write copy that sounds like you, but converts better. My name is Sam. I am the founder and lead copywriter at Nomad Copy Agency, and today I'm gonna tell you about my favorite way to do done for you projects. So we're just gonna go ahead and dive right in. My favorite way to work with people on their copy projects is through a VIP day, and what a VIP day is, is seven hours of me writing for you in your business. Typically, we start off with a kickoff call a couple of days before where you get me all of the information that I need to know about your offer or the way that you work so that I have all the information I need. It gives you a couple days of buffer so that you can get me any additional information that I might ask for during that kickoff call, and it also gives me time to marinate on what it is that I want to write. What's also great about VIP days is you know that I'm a nomad and a copywriter. So those kickoff calls being a couple days beforehand rather than on the day of your copy project or when I am doing your writing, is that if we're in totally different time zones, it doesn't matter. Because I dedicate a day. You don't need to be present. And I like to think of it as almost like a spa day for your business where there's so much getting done on the backend while you're either working or potentially sleeping or doing something really cool and fun during that VIP day. Today I'm gonna absolutely rave about how great VIP days are. We're gonna talk about three things. One, what I can do in a VIP day, including what exactly might be included. Two, what I can't do in a VIP day. And three, I'm gonna tell you some real stories from VIP days and honestly, probably just gonna sprinkle those in so it's gonna feel like a two section episode. First things first. How does a VIP day work? I just described it, but if you wanted to get on my calendar for a VIP day, you would do one thing. You would go to nomad copy agency.com/contact and fill out that form. When you fill out that form, you're gonna tell me would you prefer to work in the case of a VIP day or in a project? And if you wanna get started right away, you go ahead. And after you submit that form, my system automatically sends you an email for a kickoff call. That kickoff call can work as either the kickoff call for your project or just a fit call. You don't get charged for having this call to make sure that I am the right person to be working on your business. So that's step one. You fill out the form@nomadcopyagency.com slash contact and get on my calendar. Step two is that we either have a second call. Where we dig more into all of the nitty gritty details of your project, or I just start writing? It honestly depends. My last couple VIP days were repeat clients. We didn't have a kickoff call. They knew what I needed. They sent me the information. They recorded a couple looms for me, and I was able to get to work. However, if you're new to my world, I absolutely do wanna get on a call with you. I think there's a lot of chatter right now in the online space about like not having sales calls and not having calls with clients and streamlining your calendar. And absolutely, if that's the way you wanna do your business, do it. I personally get way more out of talking to you about your offer then whatever it is that you write down, why? Because you reach out to me to do the writing for you. So if you can dictate or orate to me. What I need to write, it's probably gonna be way better than you writing stuff out, because that's what you hired me for, is to do the writing. So that's step two, is I actually do the writing. Step three is you have a heck of a lot more copy than you would have, and it's written a lot better and in alignment with sales psychology. Then if you had written it yourself, you get more, faster and better. So what can I do on a VIP day? Typically, I'll do one of three things. The first is either I will write your entire website. That's a standard four page website, so home about services and contact page done and dusted, ready for you to go. These are perfect for you. If you are one of those people who just needs something 90% of the way there and you know you're gonna tinker with it anyway. This is something that's typically 90% done. You go in, you might make a couple subtle changes, but it's designed to be able to be plugged in or sent straight to your designer immediately after I'm done. An example of an entire website that I did a couple years ago now is for a bookkeeper. I wrote her entire website and more in a day. She was going from not having a niche at all to niching down to just people who were veterinarians, vet hospitals, and people who worked in the pet care industry. And what she told me in her testimonial is what took Sam hours would've taken me days or even weeks. I am so glad that I made this investment, and what I see now is even though this was two years ago, because she knew her niche and she knew her audience so well, I'm able to go back to her website now. I see most of my copy is still there. So rather than tinkering with her copy, not only making it take weeks for her to write to her new niche back then. That copy is holding up. So she's saved all of the time that she would've been doing frankensteining. Her website for the last couple of years is now something that she hasn't even needed to touch in the last couple years. So that's one thing I can do during a VIP day is an entire website. The second would be a full sales page. Your copy on your sales page is the single most impactful thing that. Dictates whether people buy from you after your launch event. People will typically visit your sales page multiple times before buying, and there are lots of different quote unquote types of people who are going to end up on a sales page. Those people might be first visitors, they might be people who are multiple time visitors. Those people might be high fact finders, those people might be skimmers. There's all different types of people that end up on a sales page and you need to speak to all of them. Fortunately for you. I can write this in a day. So if you have an upcoming launch of VIP day is a great way for me to get my eyes on your copy. I can also go back to an existing sales page and do a lot of zing on that. So if it's something that you've launched already, you know it's a proven offer and you want it to convert better, there's a great use case for a VIP day. I recently did this for a business friend of mine named Allison. Many of you know Allison through her business. Allison hardy.com. I helped her rewrite her sales page for something that she's going to be launching soon. And what she said was, Sam's knowledge and expertise gets right to the heart of what I was trying to say in a way that still sounds like me, which is totally the goal in a world where we can have the internet bots write something in a day and we can have it write something in minutes, honestly, and then we can go and back and try to make it sound like us, but when a real human is writing it from the get go. The chances of it connecting with your ideal audience are that much stronger because a real person is outlining, I understand what it is that your client needs to know from this offer to be able to buy. So I outline it, then I go back in and I fill in the details. And then of course, Alison went back and judged it herself as the offer got closer to coming to. So that's thing number two. Thing number one was I can write a website in a day. Thing two is I can crank out a really stinking, solid, high converting sales page in a day. And the third is a heck of a lot of launch emails. This could be a. Your open sequence. This could include your sales sequence after you have a launch event. It could be those super important emails that bookend each launch, like open cart and close cart. We can also look at things like flash sale emails if it's not a full launch and we're just doing a flash sale. So there are, in an average launch, there are between 25 and 35 emails. Sent to your audience. However, there's typically only about 12 to 13 that go to the entire audience as the core sales emails. Then you've got abandoned cards, upsells, downsells, pre-launch, et cetera. It's a lot of emails, so when I say I can write a heck of a lot of launch emails in a day, that typically doesn't mean that I'm writing the 20 to 30 emails that go to your list. These are the core between seven and 10 is what I can typically do in a day. Emails that are going to be responsible for educating your audience on what the offer is and why they should want it. I did this for Holly's launch recently. This was just a couple weeks ago, and she said in her feedback form that she came into this project with a, an upcoming launch and no time to write for it. I wrote all of her copy within 48 hours and she said that my attention to detail was next level. What I really enjoyed about Holly's launch is she had a lot of data. She had data on her open rates, on her click-through rates, et cetera. So our, our goal was to change the content of the email without losing her click-throughs. And, opens, we actually increased her average open rate just slightly. And while the launch didn't do as well as some of her other launches in the past, it was still a launch that met her goals and it was outside factors that affected the overall efficacy of this launch. Another person that I wrote her launch emails for, is named Carrie. And she said, after working together, I get to sit back and enjoy the lunch instead of stressing out about writing my copy every single day of the launch. So having those core launch emails has many benefits. So that's what I can do in a day and why I freaking love VIP days, but I have to be honest, there are things that I can't do in a VIP day and I started to touch on this, but. I want you to know what I can and can't do in a VIP day so that you know what the right fit is for you. If you're thinking about hiring me either for a VIP day or for a full project. Also, I know that there are plenty of other copywriters who listen to this podcast and wonder how are other people doing it, because the way that I do things might not be what's perfect for one person, and other copywriters might be able to adjust this process to make it better for the client. The thing one that I can't do in a VIP day is multiple rounds of revisions. In a VIP day, I do a total amount of work for you is seven hours. That's it. That's the container. So what I can accomplish in that seven hours is up to me. And if you want time to go back and do a bunch of revisions in that time, the time is yours. However, I don't recommend it because you want me actually writing the copy, not going back and doing all of the small edits. The copy that I hand you is meant to be thoughtful and strategic. I ask lots of questions upfront. I spend hours inside of your business listening to your podcast, looking at the collateral that you send me before I actually start writing, so that I have your voice nailed down and I can send you thoughtful, strategic copy at the end of the day written from everything that you've given me in the preparation process. If you're somebody who does like going back and forth, I love that about you. That is not a VIP day person though. If you love going back and forth, you want your eyes on every stage of the game, you want those multiple rounds of revisions, that is when you would apply to work with me for a project basis. What I call them in my business is VIP days versus projects. Projects are those ongoing things where we have a couple rounds of revisions. We typically work together over the course of several weeks. There's also an option to get me in your business during your launch so that I stay with you for a longer period. So we can pre-write several things, but also if you're looking for somebody who can make those pivots mid-launch, then that's something where we would work together on a project basis. Which leads me to thing number two that I can't do in a VIP day. So thing one, multiple rounds of revisions. Thing two is being with you through the full launch. You don't wanna hire me and it is not cost advantageous to you to hire me for a VIP day. Your multiple VIP days through your lunch, if you want me to write all of the things from the pre-launch copy that gets people into your free thing, that then leads people from your free thing to your high ticket offer. If you want the ads, the opt-in, you want the rounds of revisions, you want somebody there for you during your launch. I absolutely do that. But that's not a VIP day. VIP days are one focused scope done really, really well. One project done in a day. If you want the full funnel, then that's where we go to a project basis instead. So. VIP days to recap are typically one single project that is either a website, a sales page, or several of your sales emails. If you want something that's more ongoing, that's where you talk to me about a project. Both of them have the same application form on my website. They have the same starting process that we need to get on a call and discuss. Your project. So the way that you start that is to go to nomad copy agency.com/contact. There'll be a form there, you fill it out, and it sends you a link to get on my calendar so that we can talk more. A couple other stories that I wanna tell you about VIP days because VIP days can seem like a magic wand and they're most certainly not. I spend a lot more time than just my one day of writing on your business. But I wanna tell you a couple fun stories. So first is Morgan spec of SPECT and Co. I did a VIP day for her about a year and a half ago. Her website, she had basically come back from maternity leave and just didn't feel like it was speaking her language anymore. She wanted an up. Date, she had a really great website. It just needed to sound like her again and sound like this new evolved version of her and who she was in her business. So she was hesitating to share her website'cause she didn't like it and it wasn't clear the buttons weren't going to a place that people expected them to go, which has a lot to do with the copy on and around to the buttons. So after we did her VIP day, she told me that she booked nearly$20,000 worth of work in the month after updating her website copy. One, because she was sharing it more, and two, because the copy on the page made sense in her words. Working with Sam has been the highest ROI investment that I've ever made in my business by a long shot. Another person that I worked with in a VIP day, we did her sales page, and her name was Samia. Samia's big thing was voice. English is her second language, so she is incredibly smart and sometimes what she writes doesn't quite translate once it goes through the filters of her brain and then her fingertips. And the way that she wants to say things. So she has a brilliant, powerful voice and that just wasn't coming through in her copy. And this is common not just with people who speak English as a second language, but also for people who, kind of speak the language of their expertise and have, troubles bringing that to their audience. So she wanted her to copy, to sound like her and not like me, per se. So what she said was, Sam took the time to get to know me in my business before she started writing. And what I like most about my VIP day is that my copy now sounds like me and my brand. Okay. So if a VIP day sounds like your thing, go to nomad copy agency.com/contact. Tell me what you're working with, and when we get on our call, we can decide too. I can help you scope this out. You don't have to know everything. We can decide together if a VIP day or a project is best and what scope of project is best for you. And I'll tell you one thing, my best leads for VIP days often come in. When something is relatively urgent. So if a VIP day isn't for you right now, but you know, like Holly did that, she had an impending launch and all of a sudden realized, holy crap, I don't have enough time to get all of this copy written. Well, it's a little bit last minute, reach out. Sometimes I do have last minute openings or can move things around, but typically there is a three to four week lead time between when you reach out and when I can start a VIP day. I currently have projects booked out about eight to nine weeks, so it's also prudent for you to get in the door even if you know it's something that's in the future. We can put a deposit down and lock in your date for the future as well. But also know this summer camp season is coming up and summer camp, funny enough, was my number one lead gen last year because people knew. That they were gonna be dropping their kids off at summer camp and they thought that, oh my gosh, this is great. I'm gonna have the whole week to just get so much work done. But what they didn't factor in was all of the drive time and different things that popped up during those weeks that they thought they were gonna get so much done, or they overbooked themselves because they had so much time and they put things off for those summer camp weeks. So if you've got summer camp coming up, keep me in mind that yeah, your kids are off at camp, but maybe you also deserve that time back too. And you could go do something cool, go with your spouse to the waterpark. I think that sounds dope. Instead of hanging out at home, writing your copy for your summer or fall lunch. So. I know that I'm not publishing this, in the middle of summer, but it is April. We're in the throes of spring break season. We're about to start looking at summer break season, which means that people are already planning their fall launches. So now's a great time to reach out for summer and fall lunches just to see if a VIP day or a project fits into your calendar. And what the best way might be to work together. Again, my name is Sam. You can always reach me on Instagram at nomad.copy. LinkedIn, my name is Samantha Burmeister, and you can get to me online at nomadcopyagency.com. I will see you next week.
